About Marcus
Whatever your goal or level of running, I can help you achieve your dreams, helping you to train smarter and develop a champion mindset. I have coached from beginners planning their first race, runners improving on times or distance, up to those running at an elite level.
If you are wondering how to go about training for your next race, have hit a plateau or struggling with motivation in your training, then I can help you.
My ultra running career started in 2008, finishing 2nd at the Devil O’ Highland. After winning the Draycote Water 35 Ultra in 2009 I was selected to run for England at the Anglo-Celtic Plate 100km incorporating the British Championships. I have represented England five times at 100km, once at 50km and represented Great Britain at the 2010 and 2015 World and European 100km Championships.
In 2016 I ran my first multi-stage race The Cape Wrath Ultra in Scotland – 8 days 246 miles winning the race in 41hrs 36mins. I followed it up by winning the Dragons Back Race in Wales, one of the toughest mountain races in the world – 5 days 186 miles setting a new course record of 37hrs 58mins
My running started at secondary school with orienteering, winning the Avon Schools Orienteering league when I was 16 years old.
I competed my first two day mountain marathon (the KIMM) in 1994 with a fractured jaw; that’s another story! I regularly competed in mountain marathons until 2005, and I was the course planner for the first OMM in 2006. I had two wins at the High Peak Marathon in 2002 and 2003 whilst also road, trail and fell running, including a 69:50 half marathon PB in 2005.
I did my first coaching qualification in 1990 qualifying as an Level 2 Orienteering Club Coach, I went on to study a HND in Sport Science and then several outdoor activities qualifications. As well as instructing outdoor activities I delivered corporate training events in the UK and abroad; for Allied Domec, Marks & Spencers, BP, ASDA and Samworth Brothers.
I am a qualified Sports Therapist gaining an Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy in 2013.
I am also a tutor for Nav4 providing mountain marathon/trail running and navigation training courses for the last 12 years.
