Marcus' all-encompassing knowledge of trail and long-distance running meant that he could adjust my training plan to the specific demands of each race. In a period of 18 months he enabled me to run successfully a road marathon, a number of ultra-distance races, ranging from 28 to 100 miles, 10ks, and 2 mountain marathons - on a variety of terrains from the English countryside to the Swiss Alps. Marcus also taught me the fundamentals of nutrition, gear, and injury-prevention exercises, as well as visualisation techniques that help me incredibly in each single race.
I reached out to Marcus after reading an interview with him in Trail Running Magazine, and thought 'this guy will understand me'. Having him as my coach turned out to be revolutionary in my running career. Marcus helped me form a tailored, personal training plan, which fitted around my work, studies and home life. With his focussed and compassionate approach to training, I was able to enjoy my running more, but also bag a marathon PB, a 100mile win and a national title for 100km.

His vast experience and calibre across trail and multi-day races made him my stand out choice for my Dragons Back Race attempt in 2019. Not to mention he has won the race itself and has vast knowledge of the course. I had been running ultras for a few years when I decided to sign up for a race that I never thought I could finish - the Dragons Back. I contacted Marcus as I knew he had previously won the event so must know how to train for this race specifically, hoping having a race specific coach would give me a boost in my ability to finish. Roughly a year later I crossed the finish line of the Dragons Back Race in 7th place. Without the help of a Marcus I'm sure I would never have crossed that line, owing to injury due to over or under training. Knowing that his plans are made with my specific goals in mind gives me confidence in them. I also like the accountability of knowing that Marcus is checking up on my training, especially on cold wet winter days when I feel less motivated to train. After Dragons Back I have continued to train with Marcus to keep me on track for future races. Years of achilles injuries led to me seeking Marcus' guidance. Thanks to his deep understanding of training and injuries I am now running consistently at a life-time high mileage and competing in ultra races previously way beyond my limits.
